I hope to keep this page up-to-date with the kids' latest writing projects for school. Currently Benj (1st grade) is focusing on longer projects and the creative process, including lots of picture drawing and building with Legos, so his contributions to this page may be less frequent. Talia (Kindergarten) loves to write little imaginative stories and poems on various topics. Enjoy!
Blue Spinach
May 2, 2013
I do not like blue spinach.
It’s a food I can not finish.
I would not eat it in my class.
I would not eat it in the grass.
I will not eat it while I pass.
I will not eat it pumping gas.
I could not eat it fishing for bass.
I could not eat it cleaning glass.
“You should try it,” said my friend.
“I will try it in the end.”
I was brave. I took a bite.
It was so good I could eat it all night! Please Try Nachos
by Talia
April 30, 2013
One of my favorite foods is nachos. They smell hot and
crispy when Mommy slides them out of the oven. They are like a dome of chips
with cheese melting and covering it. Nachos have a cheesy, warm, crispy, salty
taste. YUM! When I pick them up from my plate they feel warm on my fingers. I
put them in my mouth and my fingers are gooey and salty. I lick my fingers
until they are clean. When I bite a nacho it makes a loud crunch. Please try
them because they are so delicious!
Mommy/Daughter
Date
a persuasive composition by Talia
April 26, 2013
Mommy, can we go on a Mommy/Daughter date on Saturday? I
would like to go to Arby’s and have Sprite and curly fries and a treat. I
really, really like Sprite and curly fries. They are so yummy! I started the
morning well and I have been trying to help as much as I can because I know
Channah is really fussy right now. You could spend some time away from Channah
and it would be a special time with just me and you. I like spending time with
you. If we get a game in a kid’s meal we could play the game together. We could
also just talk about things. When we get home I could help you make dinner
because it will probably be late. And you can pick the treat, Mommy. Can we please
go? It would be so much fun!
The Story of Jonah
a narration by Talia
March 29, 2013
The people of Ninevah were mean and harsh. They did not
obey God. God was going to send fire on the city if they did not repent. God
told Jonah to go to Ninevah because He wanted the people to know about Him. Jonah
sailed for Tarshish instead.
God was very angry with him. So he sent a storm. The
storm made the sailors think they would sink! Jonah was in the bottom of the
boat, sleeping. The sailors woke him up. “Get up and pray to your God,” they
said.
Jonah said, “I am the reason this storm is here. I ran
away from God. Throw me overboard and the storm will stop.”
Just as Jonah said, as soon as they threw him overboard
the storm stopped. Then, God saved Jonah by sending a big fish to swallow him.
He stayed in the fish for three days and three nights. God told the fish to
spit Jonah out on dry land. As soon as he did, Jonah headed for Ninevah. He taught
the people about God. They confessed their sin and obeyed God.
God forgave the people and Jonah was mad. Jonah said, “I
knew that you would forgive them. I knew you were a kind God. I would rather
die than live.” Jonah sat down and God sent a plant to grow for shade. The next
day God sent a worm to attack the plant. The plant died. Jonah was angry.
God said, “Is it right for you to be angry?” God forgave
Jonah so why shouldn’t he forgive Ninevah?

My Beautiful, Colorful, Magical Unicornby Talia
December 11, 2012
My perfect pet would be a beautiful, colorful, magical
unicorn. The unicorn would have a purple body and a colorful pastel mane and
tail. The horn would be pastel colored too. It would be shiny and sparkly and
have sparkles coming out of it because it is the most magical part of the
unicorn. At first my unicorn would be as big as my foot, but it would grow
taller and bigger each day because it was so magical. When it is full grown it
would end up being a little bit taller than me.
If I had that unicorn it would be perfect for riding. At
first I would have to train it. I would have an extra chore after breakfast
because I would have to go out and train my unicorn. I would train it to run
very fast and jump up in the sky and stay up in the sky and fly around. Then,
when it was full grown, I would be able to get on it and ride it up in the sky.
I would ride it up above the house and then I would fly around the back yard
and come back down and walk to the front of the house with my unicorn and do it
again.
My life would be really fantastic and very magical if I
had a unicorn.

What I Do Each Day as a Vet
by Talia
October 18, 2012
(an assignment entitled "Imagination")
Every morning I drive to my office, which is near the
allergist where my brother used to go. I am usually the first one there. The
first thing I do is get ready for the big day. I put my work stuff on, like my
bag and my stethoscope. When the patients get there I am ready for animals.
First, I see what is wrong with them. Sometimes they have
a fever, an ear infection, or a sore throat. Sometimes the owners don’t even
know what is wrong but the other vets are able to help me. Sometimes I have
dogs as patients and sometimes I have cats. I also see fish, birds, and snakes
in a cage. The most unusual animal that has ever come into my office is a
monkey.
When he came into the room I tried to keep him still.
Finally, I got him to sit still. I asked what was wrong and he had a fever and
he hadn’t been still for a long time. First, I gave him a shot and I told the
people that owned him, “come back on October 20 at eleven sharp so I can give
him medicine and help him.” I told them to come back on a different day because
I wasn’t expecting this to happen and I didn’t have anything ready for a
monkey.
On October 20 at eleven sharp the family and their monkey
were back at the office. I told them to come in my room. I did an x-ray on the
monkey and it looked like one of his bones was crooked. I looked down in his
throat. There was a bunch of junk in there. I looked in his ears. His ears
looked fine. I asked the owners what had happened again. They said he had got
over the fever but now his heart wasn’t beating right and they said that they
had seen the junk in his throat too. Also he had trouble breathing.
I put my stethoscope on and listened to his heart. I said
his heart was going back to normal. I gave them a machine and medicine for a breathing
treatment just for monkeys. I said to put on his favorite TV show and give him
the treatments every night. I gave them medicine for his junky throat. I gave
him a spoonful of the medicine right then. He looked like he was feeling so
much better. The family said thank you and they went home.
At the end of the day at the office I take off all my work
stuff and put it in its place. I drive home and get in my bed. I think about
the good day I had and about the monkey. Then I fall asleep.

Family Pizza/Movie Nights
by Talia
August 30, 2012
I like
reading stories that other people wrote and I think you might enjoy listening
to this story about my family.
On Friday nights we watch a movie and eat pizza. We call it
Pizza/Movie Night. We take turns picking the movie: Daddy first, Mommy next, my
brother Benjamin next, me next, and my sister Leila last. Daddy usually picks a
silly movie. Mommy picks movies with music in them. Benj usually picks a Cars
movie. I usually pick ones with princesses in them. Leila always picks ones
that are not scary. My baby sister, Channah, sometimes cries while we watch the
movie, but sometimes she sits in the swing.
On Pizza/Movie nights we move Leila’s desk and three chairs
near the TV. We get out a picnic blanket and set Leila’s desk and the three
chairs on the picnic blanket. Daddy brings the pizza and we all sit in front of
the TV and watch the movie while we eat the pizza.
We do this so Friday nights can be special. It’s so much
fun!
